Snowshoe hiking in Faistenau

Snowshoeing is currently very trendy and is suitable for absolutely every fitness level. Snowshoeing in the Salzkammergut allows you to enjoy nature and the fresh air to the full - whether as an alternative to skiing or for another winter activity in between, hiking in the snow requires virtually no special prerequisites or skills.

The sunny winter hiking trail right in the centre of Faistenau, which runs alongside the village cross-country ski trail, offers a wonderful and relaxing change for walkers.  Snowshoeing is also an excellent family activity.

Snowshoes and poles are available free of charge at the Hotel Fischerwirt, so you are ready to go when it comes to equipment. In addition, our hiking guide Wolfgang will accompany you once a week on an adventurous tour to the Loibersbacher Höhe. The quiet snow fields, the breathtaking and unspoilt nature of the Salzkammergut, offer a spectacular experience in a class of its own.

• 4-summit tour in the Osterhorn group (from Gaissau): This sunny tour takes you to four peaks in the Osterhorn group and offers an impressive panorama. With a length of 14.1 km and a duration of approx. 3:30 hours, it is ideal for experienced snowshoe hikers. Difficulty level: medium.
• Pillsteinhöhe and Zwölferhorn: A varied tour with wonderful views that is ideal for half a day. The 8.1 km route takes around 2:30 hours and is challenging with gentle climbs. Difficulty level: medium.
• Snowshoe tour to the Faistenauer Schafberg: This tour is approx. 4 hours long and leads through picturesque snowy landscapes to the summit of the Schafberg and offers wonderful views. Difficulty level: medium.
• Schmiedhorn: This short, easy tour of 4.9 kilometres and around 2 hours is particularly suitable for beginners. Enjoy a relaxed hike through peaceful winter landscapes. Difficulty level: easy.
• Hike up the Rannberg in Faistenau: A leisurely tour that is suitable for the whole family. This gentle hike takes around 3 hours and leaves plenty of time to enjoy the winter wonderland. Level of difficulty: easy.

The Hotel Fischerwirt provides you with snowshoes and poles free of charge - perfect for getting straight into the winter fun. Remember to wear warm shoes, hat and gloves in addition to your usual winter clothing, as the snowshoes are simply put on over your own shoes. So you are perfectly equipped to discover the snow-covered nature around Faistenau comfortably and safely with snowshoes.
